Typhoon (Project 941) vs Ohio class
In length they are almost level, 175 metres against 170, but submerged the Soviet Typhoon displaced about 48,000 tonnes, roughly two and a half times the Ohio class's 18,750. The reason is its design, with several pressure hulls inside a very wide outer hull. It remains the largest submarine ever built; the more compact Ohio is still in service.
